a site check and site assessment during UST removal to ensure environmental safety and compliance
Service Description
Department of Ecology requires a site check and site assessment during Underground Storage Tank (UST) removal to ensure environmental safety and regulatory compliance. A certified UST supervisor must be present, and a Closure and Site Assessment Notice must be submitted before work begins. During removal, soil and/or groundwater samples are collected from around the tank and piping to check for contamination. If contamination is found or suspected, Ecology must be notified within 24 hours. Final documentation, including a site assessment checklist and lab results, must be submitted within 30 days of closure. These steps help determine whether further cleanup is needed under the Model Toxics Control Act (MTCA).
